MMR Catch Up Campaign 2008-9: New Audit Available

Posted in: clinical audit by Adrian at 11:35am 0 comments

The CMO has recently advised all practices of a new catch up programme for MMR vaccination: http://www.immunisation.nhs.uk/Library/News/mmr_catchup

Following a decade of relatively low vaccination uptake, there is now a large number of children who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated with MMR. The potential exposure of a large number of unprotected children to the measles virus means that there is a real risk of a large measles epidemic.

Estimates suggest that an epidemic in England could result in 30,000 cases, or in a worst case scenario more than 100,000 cases of measles in children and young people. These children and young people will also be susceptible to mumps and rubella. As the tools being developed by PRIMIS+ to support the call and recall of these patients will not work for Vision practices we have written an audit to assist in this task. Click here for the user guide, which explains how to use it, and here for the audit itself.

If you need instructions on how to download and install the Clinical Audit files, you can find them here.

DLM 261 & 262

Posted in: Consultation Manager, dlm, drug dictionary by Adrian at 11:58am 0 comments

DLM 261 (user guide here):

DLM 260 introduced some changes to prescribing decision support, which have caused issues for some users. DLM 261 makes some changes to reduce their impact.

Prescribing in Vision has, since the earliest versions, included some checks of the proposed prescription to ensure that the item to be prescribed is safe for the patient in question. These checks take various forms and are done by the knowledge embedded in Vision by FDBE - Multilex, our drug knowledge partner. They include Contraindications, Precautions, Warnings, Drug-Drug Interactions and Drug Doubling checks.

There has been no change in the checks performed or the knowledge to support those checks with the introduction of DLM 260, but there have been changes in the way that information is presented.

DLM 262 (user guide here):

(262, essentially, does something similar to 261)

  • Human papillomavirus (Cervarix) now included in Types of Immunisation
  • Minimum period for drug check for interactions and drug doubling reduced from 30 to 7 days for non-Scottish practices.
