DLM 251 / Version 11 Business Rules

Posted in: nGMS/QMAS, dlm by Adrian at 1:30pm 0 comments

DLM 251 is now in the process of being rolled out to sites. This update only contains the latest audits for the version 11 business rules, hence there is no DLM User Guide on the INPS website.

The only changes in version 11 are as follows:

  • In Hypertension, the code G24z1 has been removed from the heirarchy G24%-G2z..
  • Hypertension is also included in the co-morbidity registers for Smoking and CKD.

DXS Self-help guides

Posted in: Consultation Manager, dxs by Adrian at 10:30am 0 comments

The DXS self-help guides have recently been removed and replaced by pdf links.

DXS advise that this was done in the data which was sent to DXS by PatientUK. DXS are looking to amend this, and the files should be back in DXS in 2-3 weeks’ time.

ex-GPASS sites and ePharmacy Acute Medication Service

Posted in: Consultation Manager, drug dictionary, scotland by Adrian at 8:30am 0 comments

The Scottish Executive’s requirement to implement AMS (ePharmacy Acute Medication Service) has highlighted an issue at practices which have converted from GPASS to Vision.

Under AMS, it is mandatory to include the Preparation information about every item issued, both on the GP10 form and in the electronic message. Because of the way GPASS data is recorded, it is not possible to translate the Preparation information when converting practice data for use by Vision. As a result, when an item is issued from a Repeat Master which was authorised before conversion, a message is displayed to the effect that the Preparation data is not available, and that the item is therefore ineligible for issuing under AMS. Note that no Repeat Masters authorised since conversion are affected.

INPS has produced a utility which updates most pre-conversion Repeat Masters by adding the Preparation data. It is effective for all Repeat Masters where the drug concerned has a known drug code and has only one preparation recorded in the drug dictionary.

To download the utility and user guide, please see this page on the main INPS website.

Creating and Managing a Drug Formulary in Vision

A practice Formulary allows you to create a practice-wide preferential list of prescribable drugs. This also allows for quick and easy selection of the most commonly prescribed drugs within Consultation Manager and can help to control generic prescribing. You still have the clinical freedom of selecting drugs outside of the Formulary if required.

To download a complete user guide to creating and managing a drug formulary in Vision, click here click here.

This user guide is in pdf format and requires Adobe Reader. If you do not have this, you can download it for free here.

Appointments Backup

Posted in: Tip of The Day, appointments by Adrian at 9:00am 0 comments

In the event of a server failure, it may be useful to have a backup list of appointments which can be printed off and referred to until such time as the server is available again. The steps below show how this can be set up.

  • In Appointments, click on Maintenance, then System Constants.
  • Click on the Backup tab.
  • Place a tick in the “From this workstation” box.
appointments-backup.JPG
  • You can enter a location to save the file to, although it is recommended you leave it as the default.
  • Enter intervals at which you wish to back the appointments lists up, and for how many days into the future you wish to back up. You should make the decision as to how you wish to set these options.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You may notice a small “freezing” of the workstation as the backup is performed while the workstation reads the information from the database. For this reason, it is recommended that the “Backup days after today” option is set to a small figure on machines on reception which are heavy users of the Appointments module. You can set the backup to run on ANY machine, but for the backup to take place the workstation MUST have the Appointments module running.

Retrieving Appointments Lists in the event of a server or network failure

  • On the Workstation which has been set to backup the Appointments Lists, click on Start, then Run
  • Type in the file location you gave when you configured the automatic backup. By default, this is c:\appt_bak.txt
  • The backup appointment list will now open in Notepad.
  • You can print out the appointment list using the File, Print options.

The procedure for VES sites is slightly different, as additional configuration is required. For instructions on configuring VES systems, please see the link below.

Default Referrals

Posted in: Tip of The Day, Consultation Manager by Adrian at 11:00am 0 comments

If all your referrals for a particular Read code get sent to one Hospital/Consultant, etc., you can save these details so that they are auto-filled when you create a new referral.

PRODIGY guidance on the CKS website

Posted in: prodigy by Adrian at 2:55pm 0 comments

As you will be aware INPS were required to remove PRODIGY Guidance from Vision which happened in DLM 240. However this has led to some confusion as to whether the PRODIGY advice on the Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS) website is safe to use.

SCHIN, the organisation tasked with enhancing and evolving PRODIGY into the Clinical Knowledge Summaries Service over the next 3 years, have asked us to inform you that “Although PRODIGY Guidance available through your clinical system has been removed, PRODIGY guidance available through the Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS) website www.cks.library.nhs.uk is up-to-date and safe to use.”
