Adding Batch Numbers for Drugs

The facility exists in Consultation Manager to add batch numbers when prescribing Acute Therapy.

Note that for a manufacturer to be listed in the drop-down box when adding a batch number, you will need to have added them in File Maintenance. If you need to add or amend any details, you can follow the instructions from yesterday’s Tip of the Day.

Searching for Drugs by Action Group

When searching for drugs in the Search and Reports module, it is possible to construct a search for action groups - so rather than having to individually add all drugs you may have prescribed to treat, for example, asthma, you can run a search on the action group instead.

Prescribing Appliances & Devices

Appliances and Devices often have long complicated names like Proxox FreeHands HME System filter cassette [PLATON] 7712.

This means they can be difficult to locate in Consultation Manager. Fortunately there is a easy way to find these items. All appliances have an order code, which should be printed on the packaging (and listed in MIMMS). In the case of the example above, it is 7712 – you can see the code in the description.

Version 10 of nGMS Contract for 2007-8

The Business Rules version 10 for the nGMS Contract for 2007-8 are available on the Primary Care Contracting website at http://www.primarycarecontracting.nhs.uk/145.php.

Links to NHS websites can become unavailable, so if this link does not work here is a self-extracting zip file with a copy of all the Business Rules. This will automatically extract to o:\download\general unless you change it when unzipping.

The rules are often difficult to understand but this summary of the changes between ver.9.5 and Ver.10 might help.

Editing Drug Defaults

It is possible to amend the default quantities and dosage instructions for a drug as well as adding a drug-specific message which will print on the right hand side of the prescription. You can either set these defaults to apply to all patients, or vary them according to the patient’s age.
